Your library stays with you.
inkling has no account, no server of its own and no analytics. What you save lives in one folder on your computer, and everything inkling does with it happens there too.
Where it lives
One SQLite database, library.sqlite3, and an assets folder with the files you saved. You can export a full copy from Settings whenever you like, and open it in any SQLite tool.
- Windows
- %APPDATA%\com.inkling.library
- macOS
- ~/Library/Application Support/com.inkling.library
- Linux
- ~/.config/com.inkling.library
What runs on your computer
The text and image models ship inside the app. Nothing you save is sent anywhere to be processed, and nothing about how you use inkling is reported.
- Reading the words in images and scanned PDFs
- Pulling a clean copy out of an article
- Understanding what a picture or a note is about, for search
- Every search you run
Every time it goes online
This is the whole list. Nothing goes out unless you saved a link or pressed a button.
- You save a link
- inkling fetches that page, its images and any media it points to, to make the card and a readable copy.
- A saved link is on screen
- The picture on a link card, a video's preview frame and the pictures inside a saved article load from the site they came from.
- You press play
- Players from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Spotify, SoundCloud and Twitch load from those sites.
- You load a post from X
- Choosing Load post from X shows the post through X's own embed.
- You check for updates
- inkling asks GitHub whether a newer version exists. The request carries the app's version and nothing from your library.
The Chrome extension sends the page address to inkling on your own computer and nowhere else.
